Mini Art Quilts and other Related Artistic Endeavors

For anyone following my blogs and there really are only a few, these may be repetitive. It takes me awhile to get on here, even with a faster connection.

All of the work, that I have recently completed, with the exception of the Owl, is for sale on under my name, Jennifer Haworth. I like to combine materials to make an attempt at a statement. ironically, the pieces I do not like are the ones that everyone else does.

So these are my latest pieces of work. Almost all are from 8″ to 11″ tall and about the same or less wide. They are finished on the back with a sleeve for the dowel that I make and also a hanging string, yarn or otherwise.

Thanks for stopping by and you can also find me on FB, Pinterest and a variety of other places, I probably lost track of…..but will post later.

Where Fairies Dance Til Dawn

Fir Grove Designs Cloth Dolls and Cloth Doll Patterns

The most important time in my life, was when my son, Jacob aka Jake, was born. I developed a business, so I could stay at home with him and attempt to bring in additional income. These are my cloth dolls.  Some of them appeared in publications, were solicited pattern designs, sold three-dimensional, stood in galleries and shows and more. I was published in the past over 60 some times, between cloth dolls,  patterns, paper dolls, articles and graphics. It was a very good time, in my life, when I felt important.

Most of the original dolls were large and I scaled them down to a more attractive size. The Woodsman, was my logo doll. The original was stolen from my storage in Oregon. He stands about 18 inches tall. Humpty also stolen, however I think I have one of him and he sits about 6″ to 8″. All of the sitting type dolls, sit about 6″ to 8″.

The dolls I create are not  perfect, however having struggled initially through patterns that I found horrible and hard to understand, I tried in every possible way to give extra in my pattern booklets. My column in a magazine called: The Cloth Doll Magazine, was ‘Helping Hands’.

I also have a newsletter that I produced with some simple, useful  tips for anyone who is just beginning.

Most all of my cloth dolls can stand on their own. The gypsy dolls, Mimo’s companion, jesters and some others are either not in pattern form or I have them in pattern form, not put into a booklet.

I currently offer quite a few of these in full, complete, detailed form. I offer full size patterns and full color photographs with all my patterns. I was a writer for a now, out of print magazine, called: The Cloth Doll Magazine and I was the paper doll artist for another out of print publication titled: Western Doll and Teddy Bear Collector. The paper dolls will be shown under their own category.

Recently I put some ads up and one person in my area actually purchased a pattern and emailed me, advising me that she had looked through it and it looks like fun. Thanks Hannah!

I actually have a doll that I made called: Hannah and her little sister Lily, that is similar to my classic rag doll design.

Patterns range in price from sheet patterns at $2.00 to $7.00 for the more detailed booklets. My dolls use to sell from $200.00 to $400.00.

Meara and Maggie Cloth doll pattern

Meara and Maggie are in a cloth doll pattern booklet form. The two sisters each hold one charge. Meara holds a toddler and her sister, not show above holds a goose. The bodies have a slight wire inserted to position arms securely around their charge. All of the clothing is removeable…Sounds Hard? Nope, it is a very easy pattern to follow and detailed to answer all questions.

Fiona Cloth Doll Pattern with Stump Pattern

Fiona and a sister Fairy come in a pattern booklet form. The stump pattern is included. She is a round bottom, woodland character. Fun and Easy to follow pattern.

Mimo and His Chicken Cloth Doll Pattern

Mimo and his Chicken is a cloth doll pattern in booklet form. I created his gal pal for fun and I am not sure if I have a pattern for her. She  is there to keep him company and was just fun to create.

My Version of Babar

Babar was created upon request and although I have his pattern, I will not offer it, until I find out if it is safe from copyright violations, due to his famous character. I love ELEPHANTS!

Classic Rag Doll

I have this pattern, however not in a booklet yet. This design of mine, was used for different characters and appeared in several national aka worldwide publications. I think it was Cassie that appeared in Doll Making, however I will have to look through my files to figure that one out. She is fun to make…different hair types, faces, clothing and more.

Christmas Jester, soon to be in a pattern booklet

I am not fond of clown type things, however I was a jester in the ‘Starlight Parade’, in Portland, Oregon once. The Christmas version did win a felt doll prize at some show I did in either Corvallis or Eugene, late 80’s.  I am working on the booklet for this one..It is much easier to make than it looks.

Small Shoulder Bags and Beaded Purses

Medicinal Herb Bag, One of a kind

Purple Pearl Purse

Being unemployed gives one a choice. You can do nothing, while you are using every possible avenue of life, to attempt to find a job, or you can apply the talents or gifts you possess, while doing that to make an effort to make some form of money. I began making these purses, when I was in one of those states of mind. I had and still have no patterns for any of the purses, that I create and for the most part, all of them are one of a kind and from my mind.

all fabric and beaded one of a kind

Butterscotch, Licorice, Purple Gray and Rose Medicinal Herb Bags or Purses

I love little shoulder bags and purses. I collect them, just to display. When I had no money to spend, I began designing the bags. Initially I made many of these purses, to fall in line with the changes in-laws governing, Medical Marijuana. I created bags and still create bags, that have all the appropriate pockets to hold, your card, your meds, your lighter and choice of tool.

Fabric Purses

My First Collection of Small Shoulder Bags

Just because some of these bags were designed with the Med MJ in mind, does not make me a stoner. It also does not make the bags only for that purpose. I like pockets in purses. I usually have no less than five pockets in each purse and a number of closures.

One of a kind, beaded, fabric bag

Celestial Beaded Round Shoulder Bag

With little or no money to spend on supplies, I had the advantage of years of stored items, from fabric, beads, trims and buttons to other things. This allowed me to cut out the overhead, with the exception of time, being a payable division of pricing.

I continue to make purses and offer some of these at the local dispensary, Boulder Creek Collective. I have made several purses through custom orders. All of my bags, purses, totes and clutches are completely finished, with zero raw edges. Most all of them also include something unique, from beadwork to buttons and other concepts.

each one is one of a kind

Small Beaded, Mulit Pocket Med Bags

These particular bags are my smaller ones.

In the photos, it is possible there are some pins for positioning. In addition, some of these bags do not show the beadwork, which was added later.

All bags sell from $35.00 to $75.00 and are guarranteed to last longer than your life time, in most cases. I sew with perfection, however, even flaws can add character. I also offer satisfaction and joy, with each bag that I create.

I will be adding more and more to this post, both as I finish it with purses, in stock and with new purses, that I am designing and stitching now.
